The Standing Council on School Education and Early Childhood (SCSEEC), formerly the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA), was launched on 18th January 2012 and is one of twelve Standing Councils established under Council of Australian Governments (COAG) arrangements.
SCSEEC provides a forum through which strategic policy on school education and early childhood development can be coordinated at the national level, and through which, information can be shared and resources used collaboratively towards the achievement of agreed objectives and priorities.
SCSEEC’s areas of responsibility include:
- primary and secondary education;
- youth affairs and youth policy;
- cross-sectoral matters, including transitions and careers; and
- early childhood development, including early childhood education and care.
